Wall-e.

See it. What an amazing movie- for kids and adults. My mind is usually WAAAAAY too busy to slow down completely for a movie, but both the kids and I were utterly enchanted by this movie. Ninety percent of it had not a drop of dialogue, but it would have been completely unnecessary.  Beautiful story, amazing graphics, sweet and powerful message- Whew, what a movie.

Just BE…

N was driving me BONKERS yesterday. Chanting, chanting, chanting- just random stuff to annoy his sister. Jumping on furniture, shooting his watergun indoors, more chanting and shrieking. Finally, I lost it, and told him to just sit down.

“Just BE for a minute- you are killing me right now…”

“Mom- sometimes it is really difficult to be six, ya know?”

Yes, the child really did say ‘difficult’, and he batted those killer eyelashes, and I forgot that he had driven me NUTS all day. His sister, however, did not buckle quite so easily. She is still standing firm, intent on the fact that her little brother is the most annoying little brother in the history of siblings.

Ladies first

“Ladies first.”
N Dawg always says this. Lest you think he is being sweet and chivalrous, it is usually because he doesn’t want to go upstairs by himself first, or because he is using the ‘lady’ to make sure something is safe. Someday, he’ll be the guy on a diveboat who sees sharks, and tells a female diver, “ladies first.” Or the hiker who sees fresh scat, isn’t sure what it belongs to, and beckons “ladies first.”
Occasionally, I think there may be a touch of chivalry to it- when he opens a door to the Y or at the library. That dissipates when he says it as we near the water at the YMCA pool. N Dawg just wants to see if it is too frigid cold for me before he dips his toes in. I am so onto that kid…
